Revelation Isn’t Just Prophecy-It’s a Warning (First Six Seals – Part 2)

I apologize for the log gap in between these blogs on Revelation, but lets continue…

The last two of these six seals are seals five and six. These relate to events that will occur before Yehoshua’s return during the seventh seal. Both of these relate to terrible events. I will summarize both, then delve into additional details.

The fifth seal – the cry of the martyrs (Revelation 6:9-11). John sees under the altar of heaven the souls of those who were martyred for their faith. These were people who were slain for the Word of God and their testimony. They cry out to God, asking how much longer until He judges and avenges their blood. The response from God is to give them white robes and tell them to rest a little longer until the full number of their fellow servants and brothers who would be killed is complete.

, and the sun turns black like sackcloth, and the moon becomes blood red, stars fall, and the sky rolls up like a scroll. The sixth seal – cosmic disturbance (Revelation 6:12-17). There is a great earthquake, and the sun turns black like sackcloth, and the moon becomes blood red, stars fall, and the sky rolls up like a scroll, and the mountains and islands are moved out of their places. Sounds terrifying. All people, from kings to slaves, hide in fear, calling on the mountains and rocks to fall on them and hide them from the wrath of the Lamb. This is when most will realize how mistaken they were during their lifetimes and that everything in the Bible is true, not just stories made up by men.

The fifth seal reveals the suffering and perseverance of believers who remain faithful unto death, and the assurance that justice will come in God’s perfect timing. The ones spoken about here were those who died for their belief in Yehoshua. Disciples like Peter, John, and Stephen would be included in this group. In fact, most of the apostles met a violent and early death. The next part talks about “the full number of fellow servants and brothers” who will also be martyred. Yehoshua states in Matthew 24:21-22 that the worst persecution ever seen will happen at the end of days.

The sixth seal unveils terrifying signs of judgment affecting both nature and humanity, signaling that the Day of the Lord is near. These events are so terrifying and cause so much destruction that John makes an interesting statement, verse 17, “For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?” People realize how badly they messed up during this time, too. It’s so bad that they ask for the mountains and rocks to fall on them. Can you imagine that you would rather that a mountain would fall on you instead of facing the Lord at His coming? Yehoshua even revealed this during His ministry in Matthew 24:29. This event is so incredible that even Old Testament prophets mentioned it.

The heavenly signs occur after the time of tribulation has begun but before the Day of the Lord begins. The prophet Joel confirms this: “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD” (Joel 2:30-31).

Tune in next time when we go into more detail on chapter 7 of Revelation. We will talk about Satan’s wrath, the sealing of God’s servants, and the people who come out of the great tribulation.

Until then…I pray your journey is an inspiring one and that all your questions are answered.
